The Cricket Inn first opened its doors in 1867 and is within the small fishing village of Beesands nestled within the idyllic South Hams countryside only metres from the sloping beach and crystal clear waters of Start Bay. To the northeast of the bay we have Dartmouth Harbour Entrance and to the southease the Start Point Lighthouse, one of the most southerly points in mainland UK. The Cricket is a welcome gathering place for both locals and visitors alike, offering real ales, great wines and fantastic food, the menu has an abundance of fresh seafood and local produce including locally reared beef & lamb plus locally grown vegetables but one thing we can guarantee is that the crab, lobster and scallops were caught in the bay in front of the Inn.

The South West Coastal Path runs through the heart of the village making Beesands and The Cricket Inn a mecca for walker, plus the beautiful 1km beach with crystal clear waters make it ideal for bathers and anglers alike.

The Cricket has been sympathetically extended with completion in May 2010, giving space for a new restaurant and four new letting rooms (giving eight in total), which allows us to have the flexibility to cater for small to medium size parties for private dining, birthdays, anniversaries or that special weekend away with a group of friends or family. The bar area is dog friendly for dining or just having a drink, with some tables reserved for drinkers only. The new restaurant is air conditioned with folding doors for those summer days giving an alfresco feel with an amazing sea view, the whole of the Inn is bright and airy decorated in pastel colours with the walls adorned with black and white photos of yesteryear.

Moorlands

Moorlands Country House is situated below Haytor Rocks, one of the best known landmarks of Dartmoor National Park. Its setting, on the wild open spaces of Dartmoor, was the inspiration for Agatha Christie's first book, The Mysterious Affair at Styles. The house is designated as non-smoking, with 32 bedrooms looking out over the rolling Devon countryside and the eight acres of ground, where guests can also enjoy a game of croquet. Set in the beautiful pub garden grounds the Hobbit House offers two rooms; one double and one twin – both en-suite with shower rooms. Both of these rooms offer you respite from today’s busy world, yet set in the middle of Salcombe and only twenty steps from our great bar and restaurant. The price you see is for room only, but there are plenty of great places in Salcombe for Breakfast. Unfortunately, as much as we love dogs in our pub we have decided that dogs can't be allowed in the accommodation. There are a couple of things to bear in mind before you book with us: The accommodation is up a short flight of iron steps, so are probably unsuitable if you are elderly and /or infirm. In the twin room you may experience a slight hum from the cellar underneath during opening hours and times of cellar use. This may bother you if you're a very light sleeper, but guests have told us that the seagulls make more noise than the cellar!

We go to a great deal of effort to ensure your accommodation and breakfasts are of the highest standard. We use only the finest ingredients to produce a breakfast of a very high quality. Our local butcher makes our sausages using quality ingredients and also provides extremely tasty thick cut bacon. We also make all the Marmalades and Jams ourselves (the Strawberry, Raspberry and Blackberry are made from fruit grown in our garden). We have a total of 12 en-suite rooms, 8 with balconies, which enjoy fabulous unobstructed views over Babbacombe Downs stretching along the coastline to Teignmouth and out over Lyme Bay all the way to Portland Bill, other facilities include a fully licenced Lounge Bar and Restaurant. Babbacombe is a village within the town of Torquay which is a resort in itself often referred to as the 'Jewel in Torquay's crown', famous for its cliff top promenade which enjoys stunning views across Lyme Bay.Babbacombe Downs is a long stretch of common land, with the highest promenade in the country and sweeping wooded cliffs to the beaches of Oddicombe and Babbacombe below. To make the journey down to the beach at Oddicombe you have the gentle alternative of travelling the 240 feet down on the cliff railway, which has been operating since 1926. The Downs borders the Babbacombe Downs themselves. We are a family run establishment which welcomes young and old, families, couples and singles alike. Built c. 1850 by Isaac Singer for his sisters, we form part of a terrace. We have a comfortable feel with an emphasis on excellent service now expected by the more discerning traveller.
