Principal ores: COPPER & ARSENOPYRITE

Okehampton: grid reference SX651930

Ramsley Mine is situated four miles east sou'east of Okehampton. Otherwise known as Fursdon Mine and as South Zeal Consols, the sett includes Wheal Emily. The Mine commenced work as Ramsley in 1851 but closed just three years later. It re-opened in 1858 as Ramsley Hill Mine briefly before being renamed again in 1859 as Fursdon Mine. The lodes (North, Middle and South) are the same as those at Belstone Mine which have been heaved by movement on the Sticklepath Fault. The mine raised 3,752 tons of copper ore between 1901-9 worth almost £21,000, with an average workforce of about 60 shared equally between surface workers and underground men. The mine was prospected again in 1951. The dumps contain axinite, actinolite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite and pyrite.
