A component part of Devon Great Consols in the Tamar Valley, part of the West Devon Mining District. The mine situated about a mile north of Gunnislake on the eastern banks of the River Tamar. Wheal Emma worked the easternmost section of the Great Consols Sett on North Lode, Main Lode, South Lode and New South Lode. Main Lode was worked on the underlie by Incline Shaft (205 fathoms), the 216 fathom deep Thomas' Shaft and Eastern Shaft. New South Lode was worked from Railway Shaft and also from New Shaft.

Production records report 13,600 tons of 5.5% copper ore and 24 tons of pyrite for the periods 1856-69 and 1878-87 for Wheal Emma.
