Granted a Blue Flag Award for 2015, South Sands beach lies just to the south of the seaside town of Salcombe on the South Devon coast.
The east facing beach is very sheltered and has excellent access making it popular with all types of beach goer and also the sailing fraternity. Located near the mouth of the Estuary, South Sands is an ideal place to relax while watching the sailing boats passing by.
The sand is reported to have excellent castle building qualities and there are also opportunities to hire kayaks, wetsuits and even catamarans from the beach shop and café.
The fine beach of golden sand slopes gently and paddling in the shallow water is great. South Sands can be busy in high season, so it is best to visit early in the day to ensure your preferred location.
Nearby lie the beaches of North Sands, Small's Cove, Fisherman's Cove, Mill Bay and Sunny Cove, so visitors are really spoilt for choice in Salcombe.
Walkers making use of the South West Coast Path will enjoy walking south and west to Bolt Head and Tail or across the water to East Portlemouth and Prawle Point.
